Don’t forget your friends
Today I received several emails from a battle buddy whom I had the honor of serving under fire with in Iraq. The messages seemed a bit off. I tried to contact him unsuccessfully. I contacted a member of our small group and asked if he had heard from him and started off a chain of events to get in contact with our brother. Turns out it was a false alarm of misconstrued messages. All was well in the universe after all. We talked for over an hour after I got him on the line. Now I feel slightly guilty for getting him deluged with unwarranted calls of support. Well maybe not totally. This was a false alarm, but what if it wasn’t….. I think I did the right thing. No, I know I did.
People often turn a blind eye to the needs of others. It got me thinking of the men, and women, that may reach out on a daily basis but do not get the support they may need. I’m not sure what I’m trying to portray to you except that I hope you may pay at least a small amount more of attention to those around you. Not to just to those of our protectors in the Armed Forces, but to each other. Call an old friend tonight and ask how he/she is doing. Maybe you’ll learn more about that friend as well as yourself.
I have about four true friends in my life and that’s far too few to lose a single one of them.

Take care my brothers, and may we only meet on the high ground decades from now when the mission is done.
Respectfully,
The P.O.T.R.
