In my unrelenting quest to quell the zombie threat, I try to sample local beers whenever I can when on the road. Last week I was laying over in New Hampshire for a night and I was drawn to the Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale von faust. One, the name was a good draw. Two, is was local . Three, it was on tap. That in my book says “I’ll take that one bartender!”. I’m a fan of IPAs and also of Brown Ales. Surprisingly this was a nice near blend of a more hopped up brown ale. The POTR’s first home brew was an English Nut Brown Ale and I’m man enough to admit Old Brown Dog Ale has whooped it’s ass cleanly. Hat tip to the Smuttynose brewers for a delicious bonus find for my travel through the Live Free or Die state. Hazzah!

End of the World Thought #10: People (i.e. wives) always note that, excluding mutants and raiders, there’s only “hot” chicks and “well armed normal looking” dudes/nerds in post-apocalypse world movies. Yup. That seems right. Think about it for a minute. Who makes it’s alive to his pickup truck for the pre-apocalyptic chaos escape run to the hills? The “well armed normal” dude/nerd with a plan of course. Who’s getting the spare seat in the pickup truck? The smoking hot co-ed or her homely (i.e. chunky) friend with a nice personality? Yeah, now you get it. After that it’s just genetics from there on out with the well armed & “pretty” post-apocalypse people.

End of the World Thought #9: Appears the “Leap Year” math geniuses has invalidated the Mayan Apocalypse date as having passed already. I guess it’s gonna be the zombie invasion after all then. Good, I have the right ammo for that and really wasn’t ready for all that polar shift nonsense. I mean how do you pack for that sort of damn thing?

End of the World Thought #8: How many beers do ya think you could pack into a cooler taped to the side of an ultra-lite’s seat and still be able to lift off? Probably gonna have to go with cans while I do aerial recon missions. Bottles may be too heavy and I’m still gonna need to account for ammo…………

If it wasn’t for the fact that the second half of The Walking Dead premiers tonight I’d be in a total funk. I always dread the end of the football season. This year we have The Walking Dead marathon leading up to the premier tonight to take some of the edge off though. Many thanks to AMC! But it’s always this time of year that I hunger for the NFL to finally sanction on of these “farm leagues” that are always up and down then out. I know the NCAA is a free farm league for the NFL, but I got such a bad taste in my mouth during my college years with college sports that I’ve never recovered. I guess I’ll have to turn back to hockey……… But tonight it’s ZOMBIES!

End of the World Thought #7: Yeah I’m definitely gonna miss the SuperBowl. Coffee, cigars and the NFL. Yup, their loss will be strongly felt. Good news with that is I’ll no longer have to hear about the Cowboys being “America’s Team”. What a crock of shit. Dallas (at 264 crimes per square mile with the national median at 41.8) is already a depressing pit filled with zombies anyway. As a matter of fact most major cities can kiss my fuzzy tailed ass. Besides the heavily armed forging team runs into them for critical short supplies (like booze and medicine) I will sit back and watch them crumble from a good safe distance.

As a trained Zombie Emergency Response Operations Scout I can SMELL a Government cover-up!

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Joint military training exercises will be held evenings in downtown Los Angeles through Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD will be providing support for the exercises, which will also be held in other portions of the greater Los Angeles area, police said.

Training sites “have been carefully selected to ensure the event does not negatively impact the citizens of Los Angeles and their daily routine,” a department official said.

The training, which a department official said would involve helicopters, has been coordinated with local authorities and owners of the training sites, police said.

Police said safety precautions have been taken to prevent risk to the general public and military personnel involved.

The exercises are closed to the public, police said.

The exercises are designed to ensure the military’s ability to operate in urban environments, prepare forces for upcoming overseas deployments, and meet mandatory training certification requirements, police said.
